Masked Rabbitfish (Siganus virgatus)
Overview

The Masked Rabbitfish, also known as the Barhead Rabbitfish, is a striking reef fish featuring a silver-yellow body, vivid blue striping, and a distinctive dark “mask” across its eyes. Hardy, active, and useful for controlling algae, it’s a beautiful and practical addition to large community or reef aquariums.

Origin

Native to the Indo-Pacific region, particularly around the Philippines, Indonesia, and the Great Barrier Reef, this species inhabits coral reefs and lagoons, often seen grazing on algae in pairs or small groups.

Feeding

An herbivore that thrives on a diet rich in marine algae, seaweed, and plant-based foods. Supplement with spirulina, nori (dried seaweed), and high-quality herbivore pellets; will also consume some meaty foods. Feed 2–3 times daily for best color and health.

Tank Mates

Peaceful and reef-safe with caution—though it may occasionally nip soft corals if underfed. Best kept with other non-aggressive fish such as tangs, wrasses, angelfish, and clownfish. Avoid housing with very small or timid species that may be startled by its size.

Aggression

Generally peaceful, though may show mild territorial behavior toward other rabbitfish or similar-shaped species in confined spaces. Keep singly unless in a large system.

Experience Level

Ideal for intermediate aquarists. The Masked Rabbitfish is hardy and adaptable but requires a spacious, mature tank with ample swimming room and live rock for grazing.

Water Parameters
  • Temperature: 75°F – 82°F (24°C – 28°C)
  • Salinity: 1.020 – 1.025 SG
  • pH: 8.1 – 8.4
  • Alkalinity: 8 – 12 dKH

Vibrant, hardy, and algae-eating, the Masked Rabbitfish is both beautiful and beneficial—making it a standout choice for large reef and community aquariums.

Fun for the first day, but just get the round balls.
Color: Green, Size: Medium (2-1/2 in (Pack of 2))
These balls do work, but they bouncy pretty much like a regular chuck it ball. They do NOT fit in the chuck it handheld ball launcher, which makes them a pain to throw. The green color also makes them somewhat challenging to find when the grass is long. That said, they do work as intended, and the dogs like them the same as all the other chuck it balls we own. As the person who had to throw them, my advice would be to just get the round balls that fit in the ball launcher. Durability: 9/10 they hood together better than the traditional balls without the hole (that crack down the seam over time). These have yet to crack despite the same wear and tear. Pros: durable, dogs like them, they do sink in water Cons: green color, hard to fit in handheld ball launcher

Winner!
Color: Green, Size: Medium (2-1/2 in (Pack of 2))
I recently got the BOUNCY DOG BALL TOY for my fur baby, and I'm thrilled to say that it's a total winner! The best feature of this interactive dog toy is its erratic bounce, which keeps my pup on their toes and makes every playtime session full of surprises. The squared corners of the ball cause it to bounce every which way when thrown, making it an exciting challenge for my dog to catch. And because it's compatible with the Chuckit! Ball Launchers, we can play fetch for hours on end without ever getting bored. One thing I love about this fetch toy is its durability. It's made of tough rubber that can withstand even the most aggressive chewers, and it's super easy to clean after a long day of play. Plus, with two balls included, we always have a backup when one inevitably gets lost.

Great toy
Color: Blue
Great toy, too bad my Shih Tzu is afraid of it. I love the way the movement is subtle and random.

I wouldn’t recommend this for strong chewers.
Color: Orange, Color: Orange
Is it fun? Sure. Was it easy to charge and set up? Yep. That being said, this toy kind of fell flat for me. It really didn’t do any big movements once charged that I expected it to, so that was a bummer. I initially got it for my dog, but my cats were more interested in this than my dog was. The battery does seem to last a long time and the motor is pretty quiet. I WOULD NOT recommend this toy for strong chewers as the material for this is a foam rubber and I don’t think it’s durable enough for strong chewers. While the material makes this ball extremely lightweight for more movement, a strong chewer would have this disintegrated in five minutes flat. My Dog is a super strong chewer. I don’t think I would feel comfortable leaving him unattended with this because I know he would destroy it.
