This grand antique Edwardian Albert chain, crafted in Birmingham in 1912 by Henry Pope, features chunky, graduated curb links fashioned in solid sterling silver, each link bearing the prestigious British lion passant hallmark. It’s been richly overlaid with sunny 18ct yellow gold gilt, along with its original dog clips, T-bar and a large medal suspended from the end.
The accompanying fob medal, hallmarked Birmingham, 1923, was added after WW1 and depicts a diver captured mid-flight in a graceful “Swallow Dive” pose from a rocky outcrop. The reverse is engraved with the name “S. Flint,” adding a captivating layer of personal history and intrigue. One can easily imagine a young man in the prime of his life, proudly wearing this chain daily on his waistcoat, before triumphantly adding his medal as a symbol of achievement or his love for the sport.
In excellent condition, this exceptional Edwardian Albert chain is a great collector’s piece and likely has a wonderful story behind it. It can be worn traditionally as a gentleman’s watch chain, or styled as a bold statement necklace, with the T-bar and diving medal resting beautifully at the collarbone.
