Installation Guide

  1. Disconnect the battery: Remove the negative terminal to ensure safe working conditions and prevent electrical shorts.
  2. Access the tilt trim motor: Locate the motor on the outboard transom bracket or swivel housing. Remove any cowling or brackets as needed.
  3. Disconnect electrical connectors: Carefully unplug the wiring harness from the old motor, noting connector orientation.
  4. Remove hydraulic lines (if applicable): Use a wrench to loosen fittings and be prepared to catch any hydraulic fluid with a pan.
  5. Unbolt the old motor: Remove mounting bolts securing the motor to the bracket, supporting the unit to prevent it from dropping.
  6. Install the O-ring: Place the new O-ring in the motor housing groove, ensuring it sits flush without twists or kinks.
  7. Mount the new tilt trim motor: Align the motor with the bracket holes and hand-thread mounting bolts. Torque to manufacturer specifications.
  8. Reconnect hydraulic lines: Thread fittings carefully to avoid cross-threading, then tighten securely.
  9. Plug in electrical connectors: Attach the wiring harness to the new motor, ensuring a firm, audible click.
  10. Bleed the system (if needed): Follow your engine's service manual procedure to remove air from hydraulic lines.
  11. Reconnect the battery: Reattach the negative terminal and test tilt/trim operation through the full range of motion.
  12. Check for leaks: Inspect all fittings and seals while cycling the motor; address any drips immediately.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm this motor fits my engine?
Cross-reference your outboard's model, year, and cylinder configuration with the compatibility table above. Verify your original motor bears one of the OEM part numbers listed (0435532, 0437801, 433226, or 36120-ZV5-821).

What are the signs that my tilt trim motor is failing?
Common symptoms include slow or jerky trim movement, motor running but no hydraulic action, unusual noise during operation, or complete failure to respond to trim switch inputs. Fluid leaks around the motor also indicate seal or pump wear.

How often should I replace the tilt trim motor?
Tilt trim motors typically last many years under normal use. Replace when you experience persistent performance issues, leaks, or electrical failures that cannot be resolved by bleeding the system or servicing hydraulic fluid.

Do I need to bleed the system after installation?
Yes, if you disconnected hydraulic lines. Bleeding removes air pockets that can cause erratic trim behavior. Consult your engine's service manual for the correct bleeding procedure—usually cycling the trim up and down several times.

Is this an OEM or aftermarket part?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.

Wire length between the two connectors is short for a full-size pickup
Size: 16AWG Wiring Harness-2 Leads
I used the harness to wire ditch lights on opposite sides of a full-size pickup (F150). The wire between the 2 2-pin connectors was about 18 inches too short. Fortunately, splicing the wires from the (Nilight) ditch lights and the included pigtails gave barely enough length to reach the connectors. The connectors are buried inside the trim channel for the cowl; I'd have preferred they were exposed on each side to allow for easy swapping of the lights, but I can live with it. There is more than enough wire from the first connector to the relay for my all-under-hood installation, but I didn't think to measure if it would reach into the truck bed. The harness is of good quality and is a very good value. It would be a 5-star if it weren't for that little length issue.

great value
Size: 16AWG Wiring Harness-2 Leads
very affordable light install kit. worth the price just in the wiring connectors. I used this with my Nilight front bumper kit. i bypassed the button and wired high beam (+) to the yellow small wire. I did this so when the highbeams come on the light bar comes on. because with the stock arragement of this harness, the button continously draws power for the indicator LED
